Screen Less Play More podcast is back for a third season!!! Summer is over, and it’s time to get back to smart screen habits, lots of playtime, and good advice from some excellent experts!
Tune in on Thursday, September 17th!
Keep Your Parents Safe From Online Scams
I’m excited to welcome back the team from CyberSecurity Parents. Last time, I got amazing tips from cybersecurity expert Chad Rychlewski on how to keep our kids safe from scams, Deepfakes, phishing, and cyber bullying. You can listen to that excellent episode below. This time, he and his partner Kae tell us everything we need to keep OUR parents from falling for cyber scams. You probably have a parent, aunt, uncle, or friend who has gotten duped into sending money to a stranger, buying gift cards for a scammer, or giving out their social security number to a crook. Older people get taken advantage of at an alarming rate, and our podcast will give you the information you need to keep your elderly or vulnerable family member safe.
Cyber Security Parents discuss with me:
How to start important cybersecurity conversations with your parents without creating conflict or resistance.
What scams, fraud schemes, and online threats most commonly target older adults.
How to help your parents build safer online habits while maintaining their independence.
Step-by-step guides for securing devices, accounts, passwords, and personal information.
How to protect your family’s finances, privacy, and identity from cybercriminals.
They have a new book out that I highly recommend called “Cyber-Smart Caregiving: Protecting Your Parents In The Digital Age.“
5 Internet Safety Mistakes I Wish I’d Known About Sooner – What Every Parent Should Know
Here’s my previous episode with Cyber Security Parents about keeping kids safe online.
Learn practical tips for:
- Protecting your child’s digital footprint from birth onward
- Avoiding common cybersecurity pitfalls in social media, apps, and online games
- Freezing your child’s credit to prevent identity theft
- Teaching kids safe habits around browsers, passwords, and online privacy
- Spotting signs of cyberbullying, doxxing, and online scams
Keep Your Kids Safe In The Age of Artificial Intelligence
AI is suddenly top of mind for almost everyone in the world, especially parents. This seemingly magical tool has been dropped in our laps, with no guidance on how to use it safely, or how to teach our children to navigate its power. I spoke to AI expert, Ryan Findley of Evergreen Education. His company is teaching school districts how to responsibly use AI in the classroom, and he gave me some really concrete, helpful advice on what we parents should be telling our kids about artificial intelligence.
What are the Six Stages of Play? And Why Should Parents Care?
So many more great episodes of the Screen Less Play More podcast will be coming up starting September 17, including Kristen Cook from Mom Doc Talk. Kristen is an incredibly helpful pediatrician who explains the six stages of play. I bet you didn’t know they existed! Me neither! But there is a very important distinction between parallel play, onlooker play, and so on!
Kristen explains the six stages of play as described by Mildred Parten, and their significance in children’s social and emotional development. We discuss real-world examples of each stage, so that you can recognize them when they’re happening- and most importantly, so that you don’t interrupt or misinterpret them as a parent!
